Once upon a time in the spring of 2018, members of the Pine Lake Garden Club met with the Sammamish Parks Advisory Committee to consider a park bench donation. From that meeting grew the dream of creating a botanical garden in our own neighborhood. As of 2019, we were happy to start the process by creating the Sammamish Botanical Garden Society. The SBGS is registered as a nonprofit corporation with the State of Washington, and has been granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a future botanical garden within the City of Sammamish; to raise funds and in-kind contributions for maintenance, plant acquisitions, capital projects and other activities; to work as a partner with the City in establishing, developing and perpetuating the Sammamish Botanical Gardens.

Our Logo

Our logo is the red columbine, Aquilegia formosa. This native flower, found throughout Washington, is also a good one for our home gardens. It’s easy to grow in sun or part shade, and is attractive to both hummingbirds and butterflies.

Our VISION

Our first few years as the SBGS is evidenced by success in the Heritage Garden of Big Rock Park Central. But our vision for the future is a grand one. We are blessed to live in a geographical area with superb natural beauty and a long growing season. We would like to provide horticultural educational programs for youth and adults, offer an informative website for our local garden community, and offer outdoor nature activities. We will work in partnership with the Sammamish Parks Department to create and maintain a botanical garden in the park system. Our plants will be curated, with signage. Our wish is to not only create a beautiful setting, but one where the quiet places in nature bring serenity and plant knowledge. We hope to develop research programs that will help to solve present issues of plant disease, and offer options for achieving a clean, pesticide and herbicide free garden environment.
